To spread everyday joy to strangers, designer Michael Pecirno decided to put up signs of encouragement.
Started in 2011, he attached signs onto street lamps, parking signs and other poles found on the streets of Chicago so that people who happened to walk past them would walk on with a smile—signs that read “Everyone matters”, “Someone is (or will be) lucky to have you”, “Breathe. Relax. Everything will be fine”, “You have a wonderful smile”, and “He was looking for you on Missed Connections too”.
Pecirno’s ‘Notes for Anyone’ series was also picked up by non-profit organization Billboard Art Project, and was put up as billboards to reach a wider audience.
