Friday the 13th saw 100 shark fins being released into the Aotea Lagoon in Wellington, New Zealand.
It was part of an art installation by Greenpeace to mark New Zealand’s first-ever Shark Awareness Week.
99 gray fins represented the countries that have banned shark finning, while the one remaining fin represented New Zealand, which has yet to end this cruel practice.
Shark finning is estimated to cause up to 70 million shark deaths annually, and Greenpeace hopes this will make people think twice before consuming sharks’ fins.
