Artist and designer Sebastian Errazuriz’s cabinet is more than meets the eye. Its sleek wooden exterior hides a surprise center—a reflective interior that resembles a kaleidoscope once objects are placed inside.
Named “The Space Between The Void”, the idea for the design was sparked by the memory of Errazuriz’s aunt, who had forbid him from touching some of the ornaments in her house when he was a child.
Errazuriz thought about the untouchable nature of these pretty objects, and how they seemed all the more alluring. This inspired him to fix an interior light and a peephole on the door, so that one could peep into the ‘magical’ cabinet and marvel at the ‘kaleidoscope’ within.
Even when not viewed through the peephole, objects in the cabinet look especially beguiling when reflected agleam on the interior walls of the cabinet.
