To promote the overseas financial services of Société Générale, Paris-based ad agency Fred & Farid created a spot that shows what could happen if you tried to obtain money in a foreign country where you don’t speak its first language.

Entitled ‘Money Exchange’, the ad features a French guy in China wanting to exchange some money.

He heads to a money exchange staffed with only Chinese-speaking staff, where he tries to explain his request in English and through actions.

Hindered by the language barrier, he resorts to using the translator function on his smartphone—however, what gets translated to Chinese words isn’t exactly what he intended.

The words read “Give money now”, which results in the staff interpreting it as a robbery attempt.

They press the security button that calls in the police, the alarm goes off, everyone in the shop start screaming, the place gets locked down, and police cars and squads come around.

Whether or not you’ve traveled overseas where you don’t speak the local language, you would probably find the ad funny.
