Tunisian soccer team C.S Hammam-Lif was facing their last game of the season. The game was a crucial one because the team needed to win in order to stay in the First League. The team needed all the support and motivation they could get from their fans, the ‘12th Man’.

However, because of security reasons the Tunisian Government banned all spectators in all professional Football League games, forcing teams to play in empty, silent stadiums.

To overcome this hurdle, creative agency Memac Ogilvy Tunisia created a mobile app that connected to 40 giant speakers in the stadium, allowing fans to cheer their team on while watching the game live on TV.

By tapping icons on the app, the fans were able to sing, shout, applaud and more. The volume of the cheering in the stadium increased the more fans tapped the icons.

The app managed to give the team the support they needed to win the game. It also brought 93,100 fans together, allowing them to “recreate a cherished experience they were being denied”.
