In a bid to banish commuters’ boredom and give them something good to read while traveling, London-based creative Hollie Belton came up with an interesting idea.

In her project ‘Books on the Underground’, she leaves books at subway stations and on trains on the London Underground network—where they are to be taken, read, shared and enjoyed.

With stickers attached to the books that inform commuters to take the books and read them at home—and put the books back on the tube when they are done reading—Books on the Undergound encourages free book-sharing and literacy.

“I started it by leaving my own books, or raiding charity shops… The idea is to take an incredible book you want to share with the world, sticker it up, and leave it on the tube, where it can be taken, read, shared, and most importantly, enjoyed,” Belton said. “Think of us as your local library, but without the late fees. Just be sure to put them back when you’ve finished.”

For those who want to join the cause—or are upcoming authors and publishers—and want to add to the collection that travels the line, Belton is open to sending stickers to place on your books.

Commuters are also encouraged to tweet where they found or deposited the books.
