Otherworldly Cityscapes Constructed Out Of Metal Parts

Chinese sculptor Hu Shaoming has constructed stunning, otherworldy cityscapes that would not look out of place in a fantasy setting.

In his ‘City of Dreams’ sculpture, a tall city made out of steel grows out of the top of a submerged seahorse. Hu explains that it symbolizes the “broken fairy tale” of nature supporting human development. When nature can no longer sustainably support humans, the seahorse will sink below the surface, bringing the city down together.

For the piece titled ‘Umbrella’, Hu created an amazing upside-down metropolis consisting of over 2,000 buildings made out of buttons, utensils, metal collars, spikes and other random bits of metal.

‘Umbrella’ symbolizes the urbanization and development of China, growing under the umbrella of the past and away from it.
