After years of lagging behind Twitter on supporting live conversations and updates on current events, Facebook is finally introducing hashtags today.
This means that Facebook users will be able to create, search for and click on hashtags that would bring them to other images, posts and links that are tagged with the same word or phrase.
Previously, hashtags that have been imported from other social media networks, such as Twitter and Instagram, appear as static plain text on Facebook—with this new feature, users would be able to view and participate in real-time discussions.
However, such hashtag streams will still be heavily limited by privacy settings—only public posts and content made by friends would be made visible.
