There is a visceral pleasure in putting pen to paper, especially when using a fountain pen with a smooth, unique glide—to preserve this experience in the digital age, design studio Namisu has created the Ixion fountain pen.

With a clean, minimalist design, the Ixion is made for everyday use by the modern writer. It is available in three premium materials—namely solid aluminum, brass and titanium—and in five colors. You can also choose to customize your pen with a set of brass or stainless steel finials and grip.

To suit your preference, the pen nib comes in four different sizes and materials—while each pen comes with a standard steel nib, you can purchase additional nibs in black steel, titanium and even 14k gold, which offer varying amount of flex and smoothness.

While a high quality pen such as this would typically cost quite a bit, Namisu has managed to keep their prices low by cutting out the middleman and bringing the products directly to the consumers via Kickstarter. The aluminum versions of the Ixion is priced at US$38, while the brass and titanium options go for US$49 and US$70 respectively.

Whether you are a chronic scribbler or obsessive note-taker, the Ixion pen will make you want to write even more than you already do—learn more about it here.

Cute Photo Series Portrays Rats In Wholly Different Light To Negative Stereotype

Rats aren’t exactly the first animals that come to mind when you think of the words ‘cute’ or ‘adorable’. For photographer Diane Özdamar however, these critters are anything but their negative stereotype—a perspective that she’s keen to share with others.

“I have been taking pictures of pet rats for years hoping to break the negative image that is often associated with these lovely animals,” Özdamar explains.

Her series ‘Fancy Rats’ feature the pet rats that belong to Özdamar as well as her friends. “They are actually highly intelligent social beings that love interacting with each other and their favorite humans. They are very friendly, smart, playful, they love cuddles and are very clean: many rat owners agree to compare them to tiny dogs.”

The accessories seen in the photos, save for the tiny black hat, were all handmade by Özdamar. She clarified that these could be easily removed and did not constrain the rats’ movements. “No animals were harmed during the making of these pictures,” assures the photographer, “the ladybug was also alive and well and flew away soon after the photo shooting.”

“If you ever want to adopt pet rats, please consider contacting your local pet shelter as there are many rats awaiting for a forever home. You must also adopt at least two rats of the same sex, rats absolutely need to have a friend from their own species.”

Preview highlights from the series below and see more here.

Watch: You Can Now Say ‘Namaste’ To Chicken Nugget Yoga

Image may be NSFW.
Clik here to view.

Yoga can do incredible things for your body and mind, but if you have ever felt like something was missing from your practice, we think there may be a solution: chicken nuggets.

Chicken Nugget Yoga is the very special and humorous practice created by comedians Goubran Bahou and Alex Balcombe in an effort to alleviate anxiety, relieve headaches, and most importantly, satisfy hunger.

Chicken Nugget Yoga takes you through a routine of ‘Hatha’ yoga poses with necessary pauses for bites as you go through the series. According to the video above, Kevin, your local London “nugget expert,” came upon this magical combination while working at McDonald’s in the Himalayas. “Love is strong, but chicken nugget is stronger,” he says passionately in the video.

“I had no idea what yoga was, I just saw chicken nuggets and I turned up,” one client explained. Another fanatic said, “I actually used to be a vegan for 9 years and then I found chicken nugget yoga and it changed my whole perspective on everything. It is quite spiritual.”

Although we are very much aware that this video is a parody, we do not mind trying it. For just £15, you can spend an hour of your life indulging in life’s greatest fried food while exercising and making healthy choices.

Tinder Redesigned Its App And Puts The Emphasis On Your Looks

Image may be NSFW.
Clik here to view.

Tinder is rolling out an app redesign that allows you to browse through a potential match's photos without having to open up their profile.

By tapping on the left or right half of a picture, you can now easily navigate to the previous or next photo. Since a single tap used to open up the complete profile, Tinder has moved that action to the bottom of the card, the part that contains name, age and other details.

Photos are also bigger than before, and they now extend to the edge of your screen. The visual changes bring the dating app more in line with Snapchat and Instagram Stories, all of which allow you to navigate between images in the exact same way.

The change means that your photos now play a bigger role in the armchair dating experience, since the tap experience is much more intuitive than having to open someone’s profile, and then swipe through their pictures. With the new design, you can also easily tell the number of pictures a user has uploaded on Tinder.

Lightroom Mobile iOS Gains Tools, While Android App Upgrades On Performance

Image may be NSFW.

Adobe launched an update for its Lightroom photo management and editing apps on iOS and Android.

iOS users can now edit only a portion of the image using the paintbrush tool and the touch interface. Android users will have to wait for the feature, but will still want to download the Lightroom Mobile update with a redesign that Adobe says is faster and more efficient.

The selective brush allows Lightroom’s tools to be applied to only a specific portion of the image. While the feature has long been a part of the desktop editor, iOS users now have access to the tool on mobile for the first time. On the app designed for mobile, the paintbrush can select portions of the image using the touchscreen.

Devices with 3D Touch, including all iPhones since the iPhone 6s, allows the user to vary the effect just by changing the pressure on the screen.

The new-to-mobile tool allows users to mask out objects of pretty much any shape to apply effects. The linear and radial gradients that applied effects based on a shape were added in earlier versions, but those effects can now be fine-tuned, using the brush tool to erase the gradient from portions of the image.

The iOS update also brings the ‘Details’ tab from the desktop version into the mobile options. Like on the desktop version, the new Details section inside Lightroom Mobile gives photographers control over sharpness, as well as adding noise reduction tools.

The latest Lightroom Mobile update for Android is less about adding new features, and more about redesigning the entire program for a better experience. Adobe says the app was redesigned from the ground up for more speed and better performance.

Watch: Bold, Viral Air Force One Graffiti Stunt That Put Droga5 On The Map

[Click here to view the video in this article]

In Adweek’s latest entry to its ‘Best Ads Ever’ series, Creative Director of Hill Holliday Khari Streeter shares three of his all-time favorite commercials. Streeter speaks about his top choice—Droga5’s ‘Still Free’ for Ecko Unltd—in addition to ‘Fearless Girl’ by Kristen Visbal for State Street Global Advisors, and Epuron’s ‘The Wind’.

‘Still Free’, released in 2006, was the agency’s very first piece of work and one that quickly went viral. The stunt involved graffiti artists trespassing Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland and vandalizing one of the engines of Air Force One with the words “Still Free.”

The idea was to reiterate Ecko’s graffiti heritage and street cred after it grew mainstream. With zero media spend, the clip garnered 23 million unique visits within the first two weeks, was covered by more than 17,000 separate news outlets, and even had the Pentagon denying the video’s authenticity three times. Streeter explains in his interview with Adweek:

“[It] wasn’t heavily branded, was very disruptive, and sparked all this conversation between me and my friends. Not just my ad friends but people outside advertising, people in graffiti, all these people I knew. It was a nice example of something having social capital and not just serving the brand so outright.”

“You questioned all these things, like, how did they do that? Is it for real? Who’s the agency involved? All those questions weren’t transparent. And it really drove the viral-ness of it. It was definitely one of my favorite tactics.”

The Ecko campaign not only clinched a Titanium Lion and Cyber Grand Prix at Cannes, but also put Droga5 on the map.

Watch the spot, the case study, and Streeter’s interview with Adweek below. In case you missed it, see Nike’s impactful print ad that says so much without a single word of copy, cited as a top favorite ad by John Mescall, McCann Worldgroup’s Global Executive Creative Director.

Pornhub has launched a sex-ed campaign, titled ‘Old School’, for long-time lovers with young hearts—adding to its collection of suitable-for-work advertisements.

The platform explains that the elderly are now more sexually active than ever. However, many are inadequately informed about sexually transmitted infections (STIs).

To keep silver foxes prepared, the site has roped in adult film star—or “sexual educator”—Nina Hartley to offer some advice to seniors in the mood to shed their granny panties.

“In creating this video, we hope we can give our parents and grandparents useful advice to bring back into the bedroom in order to decrease the spread of diseases and injuries when playing helicopter with Mr Johnson,” Hartley shares.

The full 15-minute video is, aptly, available on VHS tape. “…We made it available both on VHS and online, so no matter how technologically savvy an elder person is, they can access the video,” explains Pornhub’s Vice President Corey Price.

Renowned accessories brand Herschel Supply Co. has launched the ‘Keith Haring’ collection, which features the legendary pop artist’s iconic motifs.

The waterproof range will be part of the brand’s Fall 2017 collection, and includes ponchos, backpacks, bucket hats and jackets, all elevated by Haring’s signature Untitled dancing man symbol, which was developed in the New York subway system.

Subway Gets A Makeover With A Sleek Store Redesign And A Fresh New Logo

Image may be NSFW.

Subway has been updating its visual identity in a redesign that was actually revealed last year. Now, the sandwich chain is rolling out its new look globally to keep pace with a business that is changing rapidly.

The chain of 45,000 Subway outlets formally adopts its most extensive brand refresh to date, which it is calling its ‘Fresh Forward’ design.

“We’ve created a modern design that gives our guests choices—from how they order, to how they pick up their food, to how they enjoy their meal,” stated Trevor Haynes, Vice President of Operations at Subway.

It includes new store design and signage, a new logo and packaging, new digital ordering methods, new merchandising in-store, Subway-curated music, Coca-Cola Freestyle machines, the addition of pico de gallo and house-made pickles to the menu, and even the use of energy-efficient LED lighting and recycled content in its wall coverings.

Subway began its comprehensive rebranding effort a couple of years ago, and is only part way done. What it has produced so far includes a new logo and what the chain calls an “S” Choice Mark. The logo has a vibrant “S” design with a new arrow-curved logo.

As its press release states, customers will start seeing a new “iconic logotype, new symbol called the Choice Mark and optimized color palette that is brought to life through bright and bold new imagery, new packaging, uniforms and signage, which started rolling out this spring in North America. Many elements of the new brand identity will be worldwide by the end of 2017.”

A Site Where Photographers Give Away Their Images To Big Brands For Free

Image may be NSFW.
Clik here to view.

The photography site Unsplash is causing some controversy in the photography industry.

The site features a large collection of gorgeous photography “gifted by the world’s most generous community of photographers”. The entire collection is listed under Creative Commons Zero—meaning you can take and use the images for any purpose you want.

“An image…could end up in Times Square with a Coca-Cola logo on it, and the Coca-Cola Company would owe you exactly nothing for that use.”

In an article, PDN Pulsewarns that this means your images could be plastered on billboards or used in international campaigns and you would not be entitled to a cent.

Mega companies such as Apple and Pringles have both used images found on Unsplash.

The Unsplash manifesto explains that the site was “born from the pain” that creatives undergo to find beautiful photography for their own needs. Unsplash seeks to remedy that.

However, PDN took issue to the fact that Unsplash praised the generosity of photographers who donated images, yet will not allow the free images to be aggregated by another party—which calls into question how sincere Unsplash is about generosity and free use.

“The message seems to be: creative work is valuable, except for photography.”

Strangely enough, Unsplash was founded by the same people who founded Crew, a site dedicated to connecting creative freelancers and clients. The contradiction lies in the fact that freelance photographers trying to seek work on Crew may be simultaneously praised for giving away free work on Unsplash.

The site has drawn ire for further devaluing photography in a time where clients often expect it free.

However, some photographers are not uncomfortable with such a site. This photographer argues that Unsplash has been good for him and directed a flow of attention towards his work.

Taco Bell Edited Its ‘Naked Chicken Chalupa’ Ad After Being Accused Of Racism

An ad for Taco Bell’s Naked Chicken Chalupa was initially released in two versions, one of which found the brand receiving some criticism for perceived racial insensitivity.

The agency re-edited the offending footage, but a network mistakenly ran the initial version at least once and from there it spread across social media.

The spot in question shows the narrator throwing a Taco Bell wrapper towards a nearby trashcan, misses the trashcan entirely and instead hits a nearby baby stroller, pushed by a black woman. One Twitter user responded, “Let’s talk about this racist ass Taco Bell commercial.”

The edited commercial however, shows the man throwing his wrapper directly into the trash. A broadcaster aired the first version by mistake, and social media influencers picked it up and reposted it on YouTube.

Despite the edit, some social media users are still talking about the racist undertones of the first commercial. Some have gone so far as to suggest a boycott of the chain.

“This is so ugly, and considering the 'era' this setting is emulating, this eerily reflects the kind of treatment that actually occurred!” Facebook user Christina Ingram wrote.

A Taco Bell representative has apologized about the commercial. He wrote in a statement, “We had no intention of upsetting anyone with this ad and apologize to anyone who was offended. We immediately re-edited the commercial and removed the original version from the air.”

‘Distracted While Texting’ PSA Begins Hilariously, Then Turns Deadly Serious

Some people consider their phones their second lives, whereas others lose their lives over their phones.

AT&T’s ongoing ‘It Can Wait’ campaign warns against the run-of-the-mill activity of texting and driving, highlighting the deadly dangers the habit could lead to. The campaign’s latest spot—produced by advertising agency FCB Cape Town—shows an entire range of consequences one might face while texting and walking.

Shot in a ‘candid camera’ style typical of prank videos you might come across on YouTube, the PSA first showcases laughable blunders of people falling into ponds, tripping down stairs, and more. “You can’t even text and walk,” the ad pinpoints.

You’ll find out soon enough how this habit might extend to the road. The video quickly turns graphically dark, and it’ll make you think twice about the seeming trivialities of texting and driving.

When you’re driving, your life is in your own hands—so make sure you’re not holding your phone in one of them.
