Watch: Hilarious Typography Guide Illustrates ‘Anatomy’ Of Type With Body Parts

Can’t seem to get your typography terms right? Thankfully, your best possible guidebook might be your most portable one yet: your body.

“Type has more in common with a human being than one would think,” narrates YouTuber Nihal Singh Majithi in a hilarious video conceptualized by typographer and graphic designer Dev Valladares.

He then proceeds to compare typography terminology to human body parts, such as the shoulder, hairline, and crotch.

What about terms that aren’t synonymous with human anatomical parts? The producers try their best to help you remember words by pairing them up with outlandish analogies. In describing the ‘bowl’, for example, a fishbowl is posited atop Majithi’s arm.

Biology lessons have always been text-heavy, but they’ve never tickled your funny bone as much as this video will. Watch the sidesplitting tutorial below.

Watch: Visit Real Life Game Of Thrones Locations This Summer

It is not too late for a summer getaway, and fans of Game of Thrones may want to consider visiting the stunning, real-life locations where the show is filmed.

Although much of the show was shot on beautifully designed sets, many of the stunning vistas and crumbling castles are real.

You can venture beyond the wall in Iceland, travel to King’s Landing in Croatia and Malta, and visit Winterfell in Scotland and Northern Ireland. Tragically, the beautiful Azure Window of Malta—which was the site of Khal Drogo and Daenerys’ wedding—collapsed into the sea earlier this year.

Still, it is amazing that these fantastical locations exist in real life, ready to be explored.

Explore all the picturesque locations in the video by TIME below.

Tourism Ireland Unveils 77-Meter-Long Tapestry To Mark ‘Game of Thrones’ Series

Scenes from the hit fantasy drama Game of Thrones have been immortalised on a spectacular 77-meter-long tapestry.

Snaking along several walls in Belfast’s Ulster Museum, the embroidered Northern Ireland linen depicts key scenes from seasons one to six of one of the most popular TV dramas ever made. The tapestry was woven and hand-embroidered from material provided by Thomas Ferguson Irish Linen in Banbridge, as part of a new tourism campaign.

With each passing episode, a new section of the Bayeux-style tapestry will be unveiled, showing key scenes from that week’s show. The linen, which depicts unforgettable scenes such as the red wedding, wildfire at King’s Landing and white walkers prowling north of the Wall, will be on display to the public in the Ulster Museum from 22 July 2017.

An exciting feature of the tapestry, which has so far taken around three months to make, is that it will feature hidden cameo appearances by a number of famous faces who have appeared in the show. Tourism Ireland said its latest campaign, created in partnership with HBO, offers fans the chance to re-live their favourite scenes from the show all year long.

The tapestry will be shared by Tourism Ireland on social media, which links back to Ireland.com for more details about the scenes. Tourism Ireland has been using Game of Thrones to help promote Northern Ireland to visitors, aiming to capitalize on the show’s huge worldwide appeal.

“TV and film are recognised as strong influencers on travellers everywhere and the stellar popularity of Game of Thrones is a fantastic opportunity for us to promote Northern Ireland to a huge audience of potential visitors,” said Niall Gibbons, CEO of Tourism Ireland.

“Our specially created Game of Thrones tapestry is another truly innovative way to showcase the destination, creating a lasting legacy and a new visitor attraction to enhance the Game of Thrones experience here for fans when they visit,” he added.

Delighted to unveil our brand new #GoTS7 campaign and our fabulous tapestry with @NITouristBoard and @UlsterMuseumpic.twitter.com/6ZWq8Trmnw

Amusing Comics Of An Optimistic Bunny With Awful Luck To Keep You Going

When the world is always out to put you down, what do you need to keep you going? If you answered, “The ability to projectile vomit optimism, along with some funny comics,” you’re absolutely right.

Ryan Pagelow is the creator of the ‘Buni’ (pronounced “bunny”) comic strips, a twisted dialogue-less series chronicling the life of “an optimistic bunny with terrible luck.”

“‘Buni’ inhabits a world populated by teddy bears. Don’t ask me why. It just kind of happened that way,” the artist says.

“I also didn’t plan to create a dialogue-free pantomime comic. The first comics didn’t have words in them, so I made the next ones wordless too. Then it became Buni’s thing.”

Since 2010, ‘Buni’ has been capturing the hearts of internet users who know what it’s like to be infected by bad luck. If ‘Buni’ can get through being flash-burned by rainbows and live another day of being friend-zoned, so can you.

Take a look at some relatable comics below. Follow the adorable bunny on his journeys over at the character’s website, Instagram, and Webtoons page—where Pagelow posts longer web comics on Sundays.

Imagine using your iPhone as a tape measure—accessible anytime, anywhere. This could soon be possible with iOS 11 and the app ‘AR Measure™’, co-developed by Laan Labs.

“Just point your phone and click a point to measure almost anything. The app uses the power of Augmented Reality to measure the distance between points in 3D space. So you can measure things like furniture, doors, plates, desks, carpets, paintings, chairs, etc,” explains the app on its website.

Laan Labs elaborated in a press release, “A lot of the credit here goes to the brilliant engineers at Apple. Our app is built on top of the ARKit Framework that was announced at WWDC 2017… That framework allows us to identify points in space using the iPhones sensors and camera input and then measure the distance between those points.”

You can sign up to be notified when the app is available for download.

The late nineteeth century was a revolutionary time for graphic designers and lithographers alike. This was a period when stones were replaced by mass-produced zinc plates for printing, allowing for posters to be manufacturerd in multicolor and in assorted sizes at affordable costs.

These breakthrough years gave rise to advanced quality masterpieces produced by skilled illustrators and graphic designers the likes of Alphonse Mucha and Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec.

To celebrate this period, the Minneapolis College of Art and Design (MCAD) has released more than 200 posters created in the 1890s through the First World War, now touted the ‘Golden Ages of Posters’.

“Many of the artists who designed posters during this period were already well-known in other media, such as painting and architecture. Their creative success helped to bridge the gap between ‘high art’ and popular visual culture, and to introduce even those who never visited museums or galleries to examples of innovative modern design.”

Adorable, NSFW Label Is A Tasteful Celebration Of Sex & Body Positivity

You can wear your love for romping in the nude on your sleeve, thanks to this quirky fashion brand—which amusingly started out as a joke.

Founded by Paris-based creatives Hijiri Endo, Théodore Famery, Agoston Palinko and Felix Gesnouin, the Carne Bollente label features colorfully embroidered, 90s adult film-inspired apparels that aren’t at all vulgar.

In fact, if anyone looks appalled by your T-shirt, it’s probably because they’re standing too close. The cheeky designs, printed on contrastingly stark backgrounds, are tastefully miniature.

Since sex is as intimate as it gets, you would expect complications translating certain positions onto print. Felix Gesnouin tells Sleek Mag, “Everyone on the team has their own massive database of vintage porn on their computers, all filled with different fetishes and 90s stuff. It’s always a question of, ‘What kind of sex do we want to go for?’ We’re always trying to find themes that we can stick to.”

“From there, we start drawing and including objects to work around with. Théo [Famery] is our art director, and he really helps out with composition to ensure the whole thing looks well thought out and harmonious.”

Check out some pieces from the collection and head over to the Carne Bollente website for more.

A Chinese Audi ad comparing women to secondhand cars has set the internet buzzing for the wrong reasons. A copy of the clip was first circulated by ‘Face Heroine’ on China’s leading social network Weibo. However, it was taken down soon after going viral.

The commercial shows a groom and his soon-to-be wed bride leaning in for a kiss, only to be stopped by his mother. The groom’s mother inspects the bride, and the clip then switches over to display images of used cars.

“This ad is disgusting! It severely objectifies women, comparing them to secondhand cars,” the Weibo user remarks in Chinese. “For a world-class brand, this [commercial] is just sickeningly low.”

Obviously, the ad has offended many Weibo netizens. “I can’t even watch through this and I am a man,” comments a user. The inclusion of women in advertising for cars isn’t new, but this commercial really takes it to another level.

Watch How This Pill Hiding ‘A Sponge On A String’ Could Help Detect Cancer

Nearly 150 GP practices across the UK are currently testing a new, less invasive method to detect oesophageal cancer.

Compared to endoscopy, ‘Cytosponge’ is a gentler technique comprising a pill on a string. The pill dissolves after ingestion to expand into a sponge. When pulled out, the sponge gathers cells from your food pipe, which could help diagnose oesophageal cancer much earlier.

See how ‘Cytosponge’ works in the video below.

Researchers Scarily Lip-Sync ‘Obama’, Turn Fake News Into A Frightening Reality

Imagine the World Wide Web as an irrational, untrustworthy source of news. Sounds like the internet of today? Brace yourself—it’s only going to get crazier from here, because even the most perceptive skeptics might fall prey to fake news one day.

Researchers at the University of Washington have designed new algorithms to superimpose audio clips over videos, successfully “commanding” characters in the videos to say anything they want.

The team has shared a hyperrealistic project featuring former US President Barack Obama“discussing” terrorism, job creation, fatherhood, and other topics.

The lip movements of ‘Obama’ are so dead-on, you’ll wonder what this breakthrough technology might mean for the future of memes—and more terrifyingly—mainstream media.

“People are particularly sensitive to any areas of your mouth that don’t look realistic,” explains lead author Supasorn Suwajanakorn.

“If you don’t render teeth right or the chin moves at the wrong time, people can spot it right away and it’s going to look fake. So you have to render the mouth region perfectly to get beyond the uncanny valley.”

Thankfully, the video tool isn’t available to the public—for now. Embrace this fact for the time being, and watch the experiment below.

“…Stay true to yourself and your brand, and your work will exude authenticity and stand out from the clutter.”

According To Marvel, ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp’ Logo Will Be Revealed Soon

Marvel Studios had a presentation set up where it gave updates on the Marvel Cinematic Universe and what to expect from it in the coming months.

It was during this presentation that the company went over its list of scheduled films through 2019, and fans were quick to notice one thing. In the image shown, Ant-Man and the Wasp was signalled on the timeline with a new sleek logo.

The previous text logo for Ant-Man and the Wasp used similar colors to the new image. While it may be hard to see given the low-quality resolution, the new logo uses red and yellow. The first blockish logo adhered to the same color scheme as well. The new text is all horizontal and its font is more sharp.

However, Peyton Reed, director of Ant-Man mentioned on Twitter that there is in fact, a “final logo” for the film which will be revealed soon.

So fans of Ant-Man and the Wasp, stay tuned for more updates.

@MrPeytonReed love the logo! Awesome to see a fellow North Carolinan direct another MCU movie! pic.twitter.com/LU7cx1EVQ6

Thanks, Ben. But that's actually not our final logo. That will be revealed very soon...

China Blacklists Winnie the Pooh To Avoid Comparison To Its President

$

0

Winnie the Pooh has been blacked out from Chinese social media in the lead-up to the country's 19th Communist Party Congress.

No official explanation was given, but according to Financial Times, the crackdown may be related to past comparisons of the physical appearance of President Xi Jinping to the fictional bear. One observer said “talking about the president” appeared to be among activities deemed sensitive ahead of the upcoming party congress, when leadership renewal is expected.

The following year, the comparison was extended to Xi’s meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, who was pictured as Eeyore, the sad donkey, alongside the bear.

Comparisons between Xi and Disney-owned Winnie the Pooh first circulated in 2013 during the Chinese leader’s visit with then US President Barack Obama.

A photo of Xi standing up through the roof of a parade car, next to a picture of Winnie the Pooh in a toy car, was named the “most censored image of 2015” by political consultancy Global Risk Insights.

Posts with the Chinese name of the portly character were censored on China's Twitter-like platform Sina Weibo. A collection of animated gifs featuring the bear were also removed from social messaging app WeChat.

Where do the world’s most creative and innovative individuals sit down to work? That is always a subject of curiosity. Are they hyper organized—and does that mean we should be, too? Or is there truth in the suggestion that geniuses tend to be messy?

In this motion infographic by National Pen, you get a glance at the desks of famous entrepreneurs, writers and artists.

Frida Kahlo had a light-filled home studio filled with mementos. Albert Einstein also kept a famously cluttered desk, once saying: “If a cluttered desk is a sign of a cluttered mind, then what are we to think of an empty desk?”

Elon Musk, however, is known to be incredibly organized and disciplined, and so was Ernest Hemingway, who worked from a standing workstation and was known to use a chart to keep track of his daily word count.

Take a look at the infographic below, and see how your own workspace compares.
