AsapSCIENCE has created another short video that explains why our faces ‘leak’ whenever we’re sad or emotional.
Titled ‘Why Do We Cry?’, the video points out that the human body actually produces three different types of tears: ‘Basal tears’ for lubricating our eyes, ‘Reflex tears’ to flush out irritants, and ‘emotional tears’ to show others our genuine sadness or distress.
One interesting theory that the video highlights is that emotional tears contain a high concentration of a chemical that is linked to stress, and that crying might actually be a good way for us to destress.
