Bird-lover and photographer Leila Jeffreys merged both her loves in this series of touching photographs.
Sydney-based Jeffreys always felt close to animals since she was young, as she used to rescue animals and nurse them back to health.
Over the years, Jeffreys has “watched the human population explode worldwide,” and in response to that, she wanted to “remind us all about the 'little people' that also share the planet,” and our responsibility toward them.
Like us, she says, they search for food and shelter to survive, form close relationships, raise their own offspring, take pride in defending their territory, have fun and also sing.
Jeffreys’ collection gives us the opportunity to stare into the eyes of her beautiful feathered friends. She also highlights that the portraits were “printed [in] human size so that people will view the animals from their perspective,” and not their own. We are able to “consider each individual personality,” and fully appreciate their beauty.
