Dutch designer Lieske Schreuder has made colorful floor tiles and carpets from a very unconventional raw material—snail poo.
Noticing that snails seem to enjoy eating paper and cardboard, Schreuder embarked on an experiment to find out what would happen if she fed snails with colored paper.
The result is the realization that the snails are unable to absorb color pigments into their bodies, thus producing excrements that are colored.
The designer then gathered these colorful poo and fed it into a special machine that grinds, mixes and presses it into floor tiles with a rough surface.
The snail poo could also be molded into delicate threads that may be woven into carpets.
What do you think of this innovative use of waste?
