Coca-Cola has joined forces with car brand Ford to create partially-plant-based, partially-recycled-plastic-based upholstery for cars.
Tapping on the soft-drink giant’s ‘PlantBottle Technology’, which helped it to create its fully recyclable bottles—a Ford Fusion Energi plug-in hybrid research vehicle’s interior fabric surfaces were made using Coca-Cola’s trademark renewable material.
Everything from the door panel inserts, seat cushions, and headrests used PlantBottle, in a bid to demonstrate the ability of reducing the environmental impact of vehicles in the future.
“This collaboration with Ford demonstrates that PlantBottle Technology can be applied anywhere PET plastic is traditionally used, but with a lighter footprint on the planet,” Scott Vitters, Coca-Cola’s general manager of PlantBottle packaging platform, said in a statement.
