You can now reach the top of Maltese capital Vallette’s 16th century city walls via a 20-story-high outdoor lift, which would give you a magnificent view of the city’s Grand Harbor as it transports you upwards.
The award-winning Barrakka Lift is designed by international firm Architecture Project, and is made to be structurally strong without touching the walls in any way, as they are protected by a conservation order.
Wrapped in corrugated aluminum mesh, this modern structure surprisingly does not look out of place next to the historical city walls—its textured skin collects dust, making it look older than it actually is.
