Topless women are not uncommon in graffiti art—for a recent campaign to raise awareness for the destructiveness of breast cancer and the benefits of early detection, São Paulo-based AC Camargo Cancer Center made use of these sexy street art characters to make their point.
In collaboration with agency JWT, they scoured the city for graffiti that featured topless women and gave them unusual make-overs—by using customized stickers, they altered the artworks to make them look like the ladies in them have had mastectomies to remove one of their breasts.
The resulting images are a poignant reminder of the ravages that breast cancer can wreck—accompanied with the message, “Every woman can be a victim of breast cancer”, they urges passers-by to take the disease seriously and take steps to prevent it.
