Vine-Covered Wall Transformed Into Inspiring Botanical Graffiti Art

Urban artist SpY has recently created a whimsical piece of “botanical graffiti” titled “Grow” in Besançon, France, which transformed a nondescript wall that has been partially taken over by climbing vines.

By hiring a cherry picker, the artist was able to reach up and carefully prune the wild, unkempt vegetation into a perfect circle—while the final artwork seems simple enough, there is something delightful about how the geometric neatness of the circle contrasts with the spontaneous nature of vines.

SpY has taken care to save the main branches of the vines so as to ensure that it will continue to grow—the artwork is a living one that would exhibit gorgeous color changes as the seasons pass.

Although it is not particularly dramatic, Grow does bring attention to a pocket of the urban space that is usually ignored and serves to inspire passers-by to “appreciate the little nuances of daily urban life”.

Head over to the artist’s website for more of his thought-provoking creations.
