‘Rurubu’ is a mixed media project by Toronto-based photographer Haley Friesen and San Francisco-based calligraphy artist Nobuhiro Sato that combines the two art forms to striking effect.
Friesen was inspired by the fluid and graceful strokes of Japanese calligraphy and its resemblance to dancers and movement.
Visually arresting and expressive, the resulting images pair the dynamism of the dancers in motion with the energy of the calligraphy strokes.
