Hindu holy figures like Lord Vishnu, Maa Laxmi and Lord Shiva have come to life in Manjari Sharma’s contemporary photography project titled ‘Darshan’.
Measuring six-feet-high, the statues are put together through a painstaking process, from casting to costume design, and the end result is a series of larger-than-life deities rendered in rich detail and colorful hues.
Born in Mumbai but based in Brooklyn, Sharma described the project as “a massive print installation in a museum that closely mimics the experience of a Hindu temple, complete with incense, lamps and invocations, accompanied by detailed texts about the mythological significance of that deity”.
