As part of his final instalment for communications company O2’s ‘Recycle’ collection , UK designer Sean Miles created bags that doubles as phones, so you can ‘talk’ to them.
To create the series dubbed ‘Bags That Talk’, Miles combined old handsets with designer handbags—that would’ve otherwise headed for the landfills.
A vintage Celine small box handbag, Chloe ‘Marcie’ mini leather shoulder bag, Alexander McQueen ‘De Manta’ animal print clutch bag got ‘upcycled’ and installed with old Nokia and LG handsets.
A Mulberry Men’s slim Brynmore natural leather messenger bag was also turned into a retro-inspired blaster-cum-mobile phone—users can play music out loud at the touch of a button, or plug in their earphones to talk or listen to music while on the go.
The designer bags and mobile phones were contributed by O2 Recycle customers, who no longer wanted these items.
Bags That Talk highlights the possibilities of gadget recycling, and converting waste materials into desirable items.
“While these fun innovations may not be to everyone’s tastes it shows what you can do with recycling mobiles; there are hundreds of other uses that old phones can be put to—from being reconditioned and used again to being mined for their components,” Miles said in a statement.
