Montreal-based indie rock band Arcade Fire has recently teamed up with tech giant Google to create an interactive film that promotes their new song.
The project is titled "Just A Reflektor" and it is directed by Vincent Morisset.
The film lets you cast a virtual projection on your computer screen as you hold your mobile device in front of your computer’s webcam. This way, you control all the visual effects in your own time and your own physical space, and not just by moving your mouse.
In this interactive film, interesting plot twists and visual effects are rife. For example, at one part of the film, the female character is revealed by the user themselves through a spotlight that is moving as you move your mobile device.
The entire project can be viewed on the "Just A Reflektor" microsite. As Google's blog has explained, the code for the film and tech page is also open source, so any curious developers can download it to try it for themselves.
"Just A Reflektor" is Google's second collaboration with Arcade Fire. The first was an interactive film titled 'The Wilderness Downtown'.
