Fans of the Harry Potter franchise can now rejoice as there is going to be a spinoff movie series set in the very same universe.
Based on Harry’s textbook, Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them, this spinoff will feature the book’s author, Newt Scamander, going on magical adventures.
Set 70 years before Harry’s own adventure, this movie series is “neither a prequel nor a sequel”, and should be seen as an “extension of the wizarding world,” Rowling stated.
Warner Bros. came to Rowling with this idea, but as she was “very protective” of the Harry Potter universe, she decided to pitch her very own film idea to them.
Rowling will write the first film herself, making it her screenwriting debut.
This series will also be developed into video games and other consumer products, which include Pottermore.com, a site in which Harry Potter fans get to experience the universe through an online game portal.
Although we still have to wait for a while before the movie’s release, we have a feeling that it will be worth it.
