A perfume might make you think about a certain person or object, but what if it was the other way round?
Dutch fashion photographers Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin, having shot many perfume advertisements, decided on the concept of designing a perfume based on a photograph.
“We are always on the other side of the coin when we shoot fragrance campaigns, where the design of the bottle, the name, the scent, etc. have all been decided upon already,” said van Lamsweerde.
This project gave them the chance to produce a fragrance from their own specifications based on their photograph 'Kirsten, 1996'.
The designers collaborated with Ben Gorham of Byredo Parfums on a fragrance that interprets “not only the image itself but the vision and personality of its creators”.
The fragrance is called '1996', and is sold in a box decorated with a copy of the photograph that inspired it.
