A Concept Mask That Gives Asian Women ‘Ideal Facial Features’

Chinese designer Zhuoying (Joy) Li has designed a mask to replace an Asian woman’s facial features with more “perfect” ones instead.

Called the “Uniface”, this concept mask was designed to “ironically communicate how [the] media has manipulated women’s desire to have the same extreme facial features.”

This creepy product promises the wearer “giant anime eyes, long lashes, a high nose bridge, and narrow chin and cheeks,” making her face look like the “ideal” Asian face.

To put it on, the product’s website instructs the user to spray cell-blending glue eight-inches away from the mask.

The user then adjusts the mask until it fits perfectly and blends seamlessly into the skin.

However, wearing the mask will prove to be a hassle as users will be unable to eat, laugh or even blink, suggesting that many women sacrifice their personality for the sake of “beauty”.

Although the product does not actually exist, its website does a good job of mimicking the marketing spiel that Asian cosmetic companies use, guaranteeing “a lifetime's worth of confidence”.

Through this fake product, Li critiques the ridiculous beauty standards that many Asian media outlets and cosmetic companies have subjected women to, suggesting that they are better off being comfortable in their own skin.
