The ‘Walkie Talkie’ skyscraper in London—now known as the “Walkie Scorchie” by many—has a curved reflective surface that is reported to act like a magnifying glass, melting a car on the street nearby.

To put the building’s architectural design to the test, journalist James Waterson of City A.M. decided to use the light and heat emitted to fry an egg on the street.

Near where the Jaguar was melted, Waterson placed a frying pan with sunflower oil in it, which heated up quickly, then he cracked open an egg to let it cook.

After a span of five minutes, he ate his street-cooked egg for lunch with some bread.

“It was one of the best egg sandwiches I’ve ever made—although a little too well done for my liking,” he wrote in his City A.M. report.

Meanwhile, the building’s developers have put up a temporary scaffolding as a shield, while they investigate and figure out a solution to this ‘heated’ issue.
