Annelies Hofmeyr, the conceptual artist behind the popular ‘Trophy Wife Barbie’ series, stylishly nails the realities of femininity yet again with her bloody tampon-inspired nail art, complete with strings.
This bloody unconventional look is a part of ‘The Period Project’—a series Hofmeyr spent a year on—where she uploaded a period-inspired adornment every month.
She tells DesignTAXI, “I started the project in May 2015 after Instagram removed an eight-second video I posted of myself ‘dancing’ in a pair of period pants to Leona Lewis’ Bleeding Love.”
“I wanted to find out if any of my other posts would be removed (they weren’t) and what exactly the objection to periods were,” the artist explains in a follow-up blog post.
“After a year I still haven’t been able to figure out what exactly the moderators have against periods. Or more specifically what type of period posts they object to.”
So, what’s the next big thing after this creative project? “I’m focusing my attention on launching a line of products with my current project, ‘Trophy Wife Barbie,’” Hofmeyr tells DesignTAXI.
