Deemed to be the most expensive toilet paper, a Hanebisho roll costs from US$13 to US$17.
This brand of toilet paper has been used by the Emperor of Japan for five years, and this is unsurprising as its manufacturers have put in a lot of effort to ensure that each roll is soft enough for royalty.
Each piece of toilet paper is made from Canada’s best wood fiber pulp, which is then treated with water from the Nyodo River, the cleanest river in Japan.
The toilet paper is then dried using heat, with humidity and temperature being adjusted every day.
Unlike most rolls of toilet paper, the process to dry the Hanebisho takes longer to ensure its exceptional softness, and each roll is sent to the President of the company for inspection.
The company even goes the extra mile to ensure that the toilet paper is packaged in the most aesthetically pleasing way possible, using Tosa washi paper from the Kochi Prefecture to wrap each roll, before placing them in decorative boxes with silver leaf, hand-painted by Kyoto artisans.
Knowing how these toilet rolls are made certainly explains the price, but would you buy one?
