An Exhibition That Can Only Be Viewed Through A Small Peephole

San Francisco’s “hippest art gallery” will only let you look at its exhibits through a small peephole.

Debuted in May, the Savernack Street Gallery is the brainchild of local artist Carrie Katz, who built the gallery in her friend’s unused studio to make a statement about how difficult it can be to break into the art world.

"You're on the outside looking in a lot. I wanted to create a physical representation of that… I wanted to start a gallery, but all I could afford is something that you can't walk in."

This unusual gallery has shown a collection of eclectic artworks from a diverse mix of artists—looking through the peephole, you may encounter a miniature room, a projected poem on the wall of a dark room or other such unexpected visuals.

Katz is currently looking to expand into a string of peephole galleries dotted around San Francisco, so that she can hide “little secret things all over the city”.

What do you think—is this just hype or a truly creative way to look at art?
