If you're feeling stuck in a challenge, you may see nothing at all that's positive about your present circumstances. And that may all be very well true... but... like it or not, your present circumstances are serving a purpose.
You are where you are for a reason, no matter if you're a little stuck, or a lot stuck. Maybe the reason is to restore certain character traits or attitudes which will help you progress.
What that means is, you have strengths that are there to help you succeed. But when your challenges surface, you may let those strengths go - and your weaknesses may start leading the show.
When you feel pressure to create more good things in your life, when you become increasingly dissatisfied with your present life, or when the pressure of financial strain concerns you, believe it or not, the pressure you feel isn't the pressure of frustration. What is it, then, you might ask?
It's actually the pressure of your talents and abilities, your strengths, and your compassion for your circumstances, that are straining to surface. It's pressure from your spiritual self trying desperately to gasp for breath and live the life you're meant to live!
Here's an example. Perhaps you're a financial planner, working with a team of advisors. Try as you may to focus on the "right" activities to grow your business, you find that you love helping people, and you end up helping your team at the sacrifice of your own business. As a result of what you consider to be a lack of productivity, you decide that you need a business partner or mentor that will hold you accountable. Sounds like a reasonable solution, right?
But what if it's your natural energy to help people? What if you're a natural teacher? What if you review your list of personal values and find that your top ideals are fun, integrity, personal growth, and that feeling of pride when someone seeks out your advice and you're able to make a difference for them?
Well, maybe "the real you" is straining to come out!
What if you were to re-define what the "right" activities are? What would happen if instead of looking for an accountability partner, you became an accountability partner for your team members (and stopped beating yourself up for not focusing on the so-called "right" activities)? What if your values of fun, integrity and personal growth were all fulfilled when you stopped looking at your own productivity, and became the guru that your team needed... would they actually add to your bottom line if they were properly guided?
Your own natural talents and abilities, your strengths, and your compassion may be straining to surface. And in honoring those natural abilities, you just might achieve your goals after all! Maybe that's the hidden purpose that lies within this challenge... to help you find the real you.
So here's an exercise to help you let the real you OUT. As you might imagine, you'll need a pen... we're going to draw two columns...
In the left column, write down a statement that describes your present challenge. It could be one sentence, or it could be three bullet points - just describe what you're going through as briefly as possible. This isn't about wallowing.
In the right column, write a list of your natural energies, talents, abilities, and strengths. All of them. Don't hold back! Make a list of at least twenty.
Now, look at both lists, and look for areas where these two worlds - the challenge you're experiencing and the talents you have - intersect. This may give you a new perspective and the exact insight you need to find a way out of this challenge.
Plus, it will serve to remind you of just how amazing you are!
What energies, talents, abilities, or strengths can help you get unstuck from this challenge? Choose three from your list, and write a short statement on how you can apply these strengths to get unstuck.
