Ohio-based photographer James Friedman has created a revealing photo series, in which he slices golf balls open and captures their colorful interior.
According to Friedman, curiosity led him to cut open his golf ball collection to see what their cores looked like.
Upon cutting them open, Friedman was surprised to find “elegant formal qualities and surprising metaphorical possibilities” in the “unlikeliest of places”.
Some of the balls looked like otherworldly planets, while others show beautiful abstract patterns of color and texture.
“Interior Design has moved me to be enthusiastic about abstraction, an exciting corollary to my work as a documentary photographer,” said Friedman.
