The cover of Rolling Stone magazine usually features celebrities and rock musicians, but the cover star of its 1 August issue is a lot more controversial and a lot less popular—Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, the suspect for the recent Boston bombings.
The cover was unveiled yesterday and promptly sparked outrage on the internet as many found the magazine’s use of the already infamous picture taken from Tsarnaev’s Twitter account to be downright offensive—in one case, a long-time reader of the magazine even states that he will be canceling his subscription immediately.

Rolling Stone has responded to the backlash by saying, “The cover story we are publishing this week falls within the traditions of journalism and Rolling Stone’s long-standing commitment to serious and thoughtful coverage of the most important political and cultural issues of our day.”
