It seems like there’s a race to produce the world’s coolest 3D-printed structure, and architects Michael Hansmeyer and Benjamin Dillenburger have joined in the fray, revealing a prototype for the world’s first 3D-printed room.

A small scale version was showcased at the Swiss Arts Awards this year, and its full version will be unveiled on the 22 July 2013.

Apart from the use of 3D-modelling software, this interior will be made of a special kind of sandstone bonded together by grains of sand.

Called “Digital Grotesque”, the duo states that they were inspired by the geometry of a cube and used it to form an algorithm which helped construct this ornate building.
