Built around 1900, the Karosta Prison in Latvia is considered to be even more impressive than Alcatraz Prison in the US.
Lodging at the Karosta Prison takes place in a prison cell, sleeping on either old mattresses on wooden boards or iron bunk beds. A “prison meal” is even included.
Visitors can take an interactive tour of the prison, where each visitor takes the part of a prisoner, experiencing an authentic recreation of Soviet-era prison life.
However, this option is not for the faint-hearted. The prison requires visitors to sign a release form acknowledging that they will be treated as a prisoner, complete with verbal abuse and physical exercise.
