The ‘Glowing Plant’ project involves the use of synthetic biology to insert bio-luminescent genes from fireflies and bacteria into plants, literally transforming them into ‘glowing plants’.
The team behind the project envisioned that this will provide a sustainable form of lighting that does not rely on carbon dioxide emitting sources.
