Modified ‘Futura Display’ Font

In a blogpost on Tenth Letter Of The Alphabet, Alex Jay has chronicled the evolution of the iconic ‘Star Wars’ logo.
Examining the earliest ‘Star Wars’ logos, Jay found that the font used was a modified ‘Futura Display’.
This soon was changed in a new logo design by Joe Johnston, to a font from the ‘Precis’ font family.
In the 1976 novelization of the movie, Ralph McQuarrie designed the cover art, using the ‘Helvetica’ font.
The logo we’re all familiar with was based off a design by Suzi Rice, who used ‘Helvetica Black’ as an inspiration after George Lucas instructed her to make the logo look “very fascist”. The extended ‘S’ in the logo evolved at this time as well.
The last big change to the logo occurred when Joe Johnston redesigned the ‘W’ in the Suzi Rice's logo after he felt that her logo “didn’t work well in the pan shot that was initially planned for the opening credits”.
