After discovering a dead beetle, artist Mike Libby imagined how this insect would look like as a cyborg.
By dismantling an old wristwatch, he combined its mechanics with the body of the beetle and found that he likes his new “steampunk” creation—he has since created a website to showcase his fascinating hybrid insects.
Libby, who is based in Portland, does not work with endangered species—he imports the insects he works with from licensed dealers from Brazil, New Guinea, Texas, Africa, and even China.
Each of these insects is outfitted with parts from sewing machines, antique watches, and old typewriters.
Each creation is unique and is priced from US$600-US$2,500—custom orders are accepted as well.
