Sydney-based artist Mike Hewson has combined two of his favorite things—architecture and art—to pay tribute to the buildings that were destroyed during the 2012 Christchurch earthquake in New Zealand.

For ‘Homage to Lost Spaces’, he created 10 mixed media installations as temporary cover-ups for the damaged buildings of the Christchurch Normal School that are slated for demolition.

Digital images from the artists of the school are projected onto simple plywood structures, which have been constructed on the parts of the buildings that still stand.

By making use of the remaining structure of the Christchurch Normal School as his canvas, the soon-to-be demolished building are brought back to life and ceased to be just ruined rubble.
