Incredibly Life-Like Birds Made With Just Paper & Watercolor Paint

Dutch artist Johan Schert made his first papercraft bird when he was 14 years old and did not stop for the next 30 years.

Having perfected his painting and sculptural techniques at The Hague’s Royal Academy of Arts, Schert’s now creates amazingly realistic models of a diverse range of objects, including dinosaurs, animals and boats.

However, birds remain a pet subject for him and his hyper-realistic bird models could pass for real, living feathered creatures even at close range—in fact, they are made with nothing more than paper and watercolor paint.

Although the artist uses a computer to help him create the initial paper blueprints, most of the work is done painstaking by hand—the entire process can take from several days to a month to complete.

Head over to Schert’s website to view more of his astounding paper models.
